Sri Lanka is poised to welcome over 200,000 Russian tourists in 2024, according to projections by Ambassador Levan S. Dzhagaryan of the Russian Federation. The ambassador highlighted Sri Lanka's popularity among Russian travelers and the expected growth in visitor numbers during a recent courtesy call with the Chamber of Tourism and Industries Sri Lanka (CTISL).
Improved air connectivity between the two countries would facilitate the influx of Russian vacationers. Tourism authorities are also hoping to attract Russian investment into Sri Lanka's hospitality sector. The ambassador assured support from the embassy in coordinating with relevant Russian federal agencies on related initiatives.
CTISL representatives discussed tourism promotion strategies targeting the Russian market in 2024 and beyond. Their proposals aimed to capitalize on Russia's strong outbound tourism growth to boost Sri Lanka's tourism industry.
With its reputation as a favored Russian holiday destination, ample attractions, and concerted tourism marketing efforts, Sri Lanka seems well-positioned to host a record number of Russian visitors next year. The anticipated 200,000 tourists would provide a significant injection of foreign revenue.
